On a cold and windy night in 2003 [thanx Charles Schultz & Snoopy] the Pictoons / st martini productions venture commenced. Two geezers, high-school buddies, Joel and Jim, found each other on the internet.
We discovered that Joel enjoyed thinking up funny captions for photos ... he made Jim LOL. And Jim liked to fool around with the technical aspects of working with images on the computer.
We started creating Pictoons, which we did not name such immediately. We just sent out these PICtures with carTOON captions to our friends and family.
We formed the company 'st martini productions' in May, 2005. It is a composite of St. Pauli Girl [Jim's favorite beer] and Martini, the drink [Joel's favorite pastime]. We dropped the period after St. so as to not imply any religious association. So, we became st martini productions. We gave ourselves official titles: Joel is Operations Director and Jim is Technical Director.
At this point, we were still basically just amusing ourselves with our creations. Then, in June of 2005, JBar [Joel's now-famous handle] had the brilliant idea of us starting a shop at CafePress.com to try to permit folks to enjoy our offerings on various merchandise [t-shirts, mugs, ...]. And, our Pictoons Shop was established.
In February of 2006, pictoons.net was born. The original idea was that we could do much more with a site of our own, like offer our Slideshows for free download, which we could not place in our Shop at CafePress. We purposely decided to not encumber our Pictoons with any copyright or signatures. So, we offer only the pure product for everyone's enjoyment.
We must add that a number of folks have aided us along the way. Each of them has earned our highest civilian award ... Our Undying Gratitude !!!
Our most recent business venture has been to create the Pictoons Foundation, to share our profits with Charitable Organizations.
Needless to say, altho we are Geezers, we still have some dynamite ideas for future projects, improvements to our sites, and how to spend the Fortune we are destined to accumulate.
